48th Fighter Wing USAFE RAF Lakenheath, UK F-15C/D, F-15E 'LN' 492nd/493rd/494th Fighter Squadrons

Formed by USAFE at Chaumont AB, France in June 1952 as the 48th Fighter-Bomber Wing with the F-84 and F-86, the unit converted to the F-100 before being redesignated 48th Tactical Fighter Wing in July 1958. They moved to RAF Lakenheath in January 1960 and converted to the F-4D in 1972, subsequently exchanging the Phantom for the F-111F in 1977. Three squadrons deployed to Taif, Saudi Arabia for Desert Storm, becoming the largest unit located in the Gulf, with assignment to 48th TFW (Provisional). The unit was redesignated 48th Fighter Wing in October 1991, and began converting to the F-15E in 1992. The F-15C/D was added in 1994.
